Elder, St. Xavier Hit The Court In Royal 8 Classic

A day after facing each other in a GCL South basketball game, won by Elder, the two GCL South schools were back on the court as part of the Royal 8 Hardwood Classic Saturday at Fairfield High School.  Elder could not make a 19-17 halftime margin hold up, falling to defending event champion Lakota West, 49-37, in a winner’s bracket final game.  The Panthers (10-3) got 10 point s each from Brad Miller and Thomas Autenrieb.

Elder plays Turpin (6-7) at 6 tonight at Fairfield.

St. Xavier, the second of four games Saturday at Fairfield, outscored Withrow, 10-5, in overtime to record a 50-45 victory over the Tigers in the event’s fifth-place game.  Senior forward Roderick Mills, the GCL South’s leading scorer, tallied a team-high 21 points, hitting 8-of-9 free throws, and grabbed 14 rebounds in the win.  The Bombers (7-6) travel to Moeller (12-1, 2-0 GCL South) on Friday night when GCL South play resumes.
