Moeller, which has been ranked No. 1 in The Enquirer’s Division I coaches poll all season, looks to take control of the GCL South basketball race when it travels to No. 6 Elder tonight.  Tipoff is 7:30 at The Pit, where Elder (12-4,. 2-1 GCL South) rallied from a 22-point deficit last Friday to defeat La Salle, 62-58, and remain a game behind the division-leading Crusaders (14-1, 3-0).  Moeller, which is riding an eight-game winning streak and has won 13 straight against GCL South competition dating back to last year, has won 13 straight against Elder dating back to February 2, 2007.

Senior forward Grant Benzinger scored a team-high 16 points and grabbed four of his team’s 32 rebounds in the first meeting between the two schools this year, won by Moeller, 53-44, on January 10.  Moeller outrebounded Elder, 32-21, in that game – led by seven boards from junior Nate Fowler, who leads the GCL South in rebounding.  Junior guard Brad Miller led Elder with 19 points, while senior forward Devin Pike added 13 for the Panthers – who are a perfect 7-0 at home this season and coming off a 74-67 win Tuesday at The Pit against Western Hills.
