Junior center Nate Fowler’s layup with three minutes remaining sparked a 6-0 run that enabled Moeller to emerge with a hard-fought, 40-33 victory over La Salle in a GCL South basketball game Friday night at Moeller, giving the Crusaders the outright divisional championship for the second consecutive season.  Moeller (17-1, 5-0 GCL South), ranked No. 1 in The Enquirer’s Division I coaches’ poll all season, has now won 11 straight overall – including a perfect record this calendar year - and 15 in a row against GCL South competition.

Senior guard Tre’ Hawkins, who followed Fowler’s go-ahead basket with one of his own, led Moeller with 14 points (5-of-6 field goals) while dishing out four assists and recording three steals.  Fowler added 10 points for Moeller, which attempted only 25 field goals in the game and connected on 14 of its shots.  Senior guard Tim Bell led No. 2 La Salle (14-4, 2-3) with 15 points, and freshman guard C.J. Fleming added 10.  Both schools are off until Tuesday, when Moeller travels to GCL Co-Ed division leader Roger Bacon at 7:30.  La Salle visits Oak Hills, with the tipoff also at 7:30.
