All four GCL South basketball teams posted victories in their sectional tournament openers this weekend and, as a result, now advance to their respective sectional semifinals to be played Tuesday and Wednesday.  Top-ranked Moeller (20-1), the No. 1 seed in the Cincinnati 2 Sectional, remained perfect in 2014 with a 74-24 win over Ross Friday night at Lakota West High School.

Senior guard Grant Benzinger scored a game-high 20 points, connecting on four of the Crusaders’ 10 three-point goals, while junior center Nate Fowler added 10 points as Moeller’s stingy defense held Ross to 11 field goals and built a 44-9 halftime advantage.  Moeller, riding a 14-game winning streak, advances to face No. 31-seed Western Hills at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Lakota West.

Elder, the No. 5 seed in the Cincinnati 4 Sectional, defeated Kings, 47-34, Friday night at Fairfield to advance to the sectional semifinals.  The Panthers (16-6) will oppose No. 20 seed Hamilton at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Fairfield.

La Salle, behind a combined 34 points from brothers Jeffrey (20) and Jeremy (14) Larkin, made the GCL South a perfect 3-of-3 Friday night by recording a 68-37 victory over Anderson in the Cincinnati 5 Sectional at Hamilton.  The No. 2-seed Lancers (16-5) move on to meet No. 29-seed Edgewood at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Hamilton.

St. Xavier was the lone GCL South school that didn’t open sectional play until Saturday, but the wait didn’t hurt the Bombers.  Coach Scott Martin’s team had 11 different players score en route to a 66-47 win over Harrison in a Cincinnati Sectional 1 game at Lakota West.  Senior forward Roderick Mills led all scorers with 18 points, hitting 8-of-12 field goals and both three-point attempts.

The No. 15-seed Bombers (9-12) advance to meet No. 3 seed Fairfield at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Lakota West High School.  Winners of the sectional semifinal games advance to the sectional finals to be held either Friday or Sunday at Xavier University’s Cintas Center.  Here is a look at each team’s sectional semifinal game, listed with seeds, locations and tip times:
