The four GCL South bowling teams are hoping today is as good as last Wednesday, when Elder, La Salle, Moeller and St. Xavier each emerged from sectional play to earn a spot in the Southwest Ohio Division I District Championships being held today at Beaver-Vu Lanes in Beavercreek.  Competition among the 14 qualifying teams begins this morning, with the top five teams and individuals qualifying for the Ohio High School Athletic Association State Bowling Championships on Saturday, March 1, at Wayne Webb’s Columbus Bowl.

St. Xavier advanced to districts by winning the sectional held last week at Crossgate Lanes.  La Salle, the GCL South regular-season champion, advanced by finishing second; Moeller moved on by coming in fifth.  Elder – thanks to a school-record 767 series by senior Josh Guy – finished third in the sectional held at Colerain Bowl to advance.  Moeller’s Grant Godbey (693) and St. Xavier’s Kevin Polking (675) came in second and third, respectively,  among the top individuals competing at the sectional tournament at Crossgate.
