GCL South Tripleheader At Cintas Center Tonight

Fans of GCL South basketball couldn’t have scripted a better schedule for tonight’s sectional finals, as Elder, Moeller and La Salle play consecutive games beginning at 6:30 at Xavier University’s Cintas Center.  The three GCL South members are all vying for Cincinnati sectional championships, which comes with advancement to the district tournament, and the best part for fans is a $6 (advance) or $7 (at the gate) ticket is good for all three of the games.  Advance tickets are available at the participating schools.

Elder takes the court first tonight, as the No. 6-seed Panthers (17-6) face No. 5 Middletown (17-6), winner of six straight and co-champs of the Greater Miami Conference, in the Cincinnati 4 Sectional championship.  The Panthers are coming off a season-high 84-point output in a semifinal victory over Hamilton.  Top-seed Moeller (21-1), which has yet to lose in 2014 and owns a 15-game winning streak, faces No. 8 Lakota East (16-7) in the Cincinnati 2 Sectional title game at 7.  The Crusaders, unbeaten against Ohio schools, will attempt to stop Lakota East’s four-game winning streak.  Tipoff is 7.

The nightcap also is a GCL South-GMC matchup, as No. 2 La Salle (17-5) looks to extend its postseason run against No. 7 Mason (14-6) in the Cincinnati 5 Sectional final.  The Lancers have cruised to two wins in their first two sectional games, and are vying for a return trip to the regional final again this year.  La Salle made it there last year before falling to state semifinalist Walnut Hills.  La Salle, Elder and Moeller have a combined 55-12 record entering the sectional finals.
