Elder (3-1), No. 3 behind fellow GCL South members Moeller and St. Xavier in The Enquirer’s weekly Division I coaches’ poll  trailed 14-`13 in the fourth quarter when junior running Ja’Vahri Portis scored from three yards out on a key fourth down.  Ramsey then hit senior receiver Louis Faillace on the two-point conversion to give Elder a 21-14 lead. Faillace finished with 13 catches for 145 yards.

St. Edward mounted a late drive, but Elder’s defense came up big .  Junior defensive end Joe Schroer recorded a key sack on second down, and two incomplete passes later, the Elder had evened the all-time series between the two Ohio prep football powers at 6-6.

Elder’s victory capped a perfect weekend for the GCL South, which is now 14-2 against non-conference opponents after four weeks.  The Panthers host Rosa Fort High School (1-4) from Tunica, Miss. at 7 p.m. Friday.  La Salle (4-0) hosts Northwest (3-1) in a non-conference game at 7 Friday, while Moeller (4-0) travels to St. Xavier (3-1) in the GCL South opener for both schools.  Kickoff is 7 Friday at ST. Xavier Stadium.
