Led by a second-day low round of 1-over 73 from junior Michael O’Brien, Moeller capped an impressive run against league competition by winning the two-day GCL South Championships held Sunday and Monday at Weatherwax Golf Course in Middletown.   O’Brien and teammate Jake Fox, who were named GCL South Co-Players of the Year, helped the Crusaders to an impressive run in all six legs of the GCL South season.

Coach  Rich Bohne’s team had the outright low in all four of the GCL South 9-hole quad matches leading up to this week’s GCL South Championships, and then finished runner-up St. Xavier by 20 strokes in the two-day event.  The total scores for all six GCL South events were:  Moeller, 1215; St. Xavier, 1245; La Salle, 1285; and Elder, 1290. O’Brien and Fox wound up with identical scores of 305 for the 72 total holes, a stroke average of 38.13.

Joining O’Brien and Fox on the ALL-GCL South Division first team are Kirran Magowan (St. Xavier), Ben Sattler and Quinn Sullivan (Moeller), and Daniel Wetterich (La Salle).  O’Brien finished with the low total at the GCL South Championships, with an 8-over 152 – one shot better than teammate Nick Gruber and Wetterich, who both shot 153s. Rounding out the top five were Cameron Frazier and Domenic Maricocchi, at 156.

Frazier, Gruber and Maricocchi all were named second team All-GCL South, along with Brady Heidemann (La Salle), Joey McCarthy (St. Xavier) and Josh Rhoads (Elder).   The teams will now prepare for the Division I sectional tournaments at Glenview (September 30) and Miami Whitewater (October 1).
