The combination of course construction and the inclement weather conditions / forecasted rainfall has forced a site change for Saturday’s GCL South Cross Country Championships. The meet will be moved from Rapid Run Park to St. Xavier High School.

All of the scheduled race times will remain the same– Freshman (2 miles) running at 10 a.m., followed by the Varsity and Junior Varsity (3.1 miles) at 10:30, and the Open (3.1 miles) at 11.  Awards for all of the races will be presented beginning at 11:30..

St. Xavier is the three-time defending GCL South varsity champion, and the Bombers have won four of the last five league meets.  Last year, St. Xavier runners dominated the league championships – claiming the top seven spots and eight of the first nine.  Michael Hall, who is now running at Florida State University, finished first with a time of 16:04.80.  Three of the top five finishers are back for the Bombers this year, including seniors Michael Vitucci (second, 16:05.13), Brad Eagen (fourth, 16:13.02), and Cole Grabowski (fifth, 16:13.47).

Hall, Evan Stifel (who graduated this spring) and Vitucci went on to take three of the top eight spots and help lead the Bombers to the Division I state championship last season – St. Xavier’s fourth state crown (also winning in 1998-99, 2001-01 and 2003-04).  Std. Xavier finished with a team total of 46 points, with Dublin Coffman the next closest with 105.

Elder finished second in the GCL South meet last year, with senior Eric Huff coming in ninth with a time of 16:38.73. Huff, along with senior Michael Huschart (13th place, 16:53.13), along with La Salle (paced by senior Michael Campbell, 12th, 16:43.91) and Moeller (junior Matt Dewine, 15th, 17:05.01) will attempt to challenge the Bombers Saturday morning.
