After consecutive weeks of league games, all four GCL South football teams prepare to face non-conference teams over the next two days in week eight of the 10-game regular season. Here is a quick glance at games involving GCL South members:

La Salle at St. Charles Prep (7:30 p.m.) – The Lancers, who travel to Columbus tonight to face St. Charles (2-5), are looking to rebound from their first loss of the season, a 24-21 home defeat to St. Xavier on the last play of the game last Friday.  La Salle has the top two rushers in the GCL South in junior Jeremy Larkin (1,180 yards and a league-best 17 touchdowns) and sophomore Jarell White (711, 11).   La Salle (6-1) is ranked No. 4 in the Associated Press Division II state rankings.

Winton Woods at Elder (7 p.m.) – Elder will be tested by a strong Winton Woods ground game led by senior Marcus Davis, who has run for 882 yards and 15 TDs.  The Panthers (4-3), coming off back-to-back GCL South losses, are led by junior quarterback Peyton Ramsey – who has accounted for 1,815 yards and 11 TDs.  Elder is currently No. 17 in the latest Division I, Region 2 Harbin computer ratings – which qualifies teams for the state playoffs.

Warren Central at St. Xavier (7 p.m.) – After consecutive close GCL South road victories over Elder and La Salle, St. Xavier (5-2) hosts one of the top teams from Indiana in Warren Central (7-1), No. 3 in the state’s Class 6A rankings after suffering its first loss of the season to No. 1 Carmel, 17-10, last Friday.  The Bombers look to avenge last season’s 34-28 loss at Warren Central, a game that saw the Warriors score 10 points in the final 1:04.

Cleveland St. Ignatius vs. Moeller (7 p.m. Saturday) – The game is being played at Dublin Coffman High School in Columbus, relatively equal travel distances for the two schools. Moeller (6-1), ranked No. 6 in the AP Division I state rankings, is looking for its first win over St. Ignatius (5-2).  The two schools have played four times previously, the last a 24-12 St. Ignatius win on October 28, 1995.  St. Ignatius also beat Moeller twice in the state finals, in 1989 and 1993.  The Crusaders, however, are the two-time defending state champs and have won 15 of their last 17 regular-season games.
