

Moeller Adds Golf To Its State Title Lore

Moeller has won multiple state titles in football, basketball and baseball, but the Crusaders added another trophy to their state championships case Saturday in Columbus – golf. Coach Rick Bohne’s team, which took an eight-shot lead into the second and final day of the Ohio High School Athletic Association Boys’ Division I State Golf Championships, posted another solid day of scores to finish nine strokes ahead of the competition.
The Crusaders, who posted a 312 team score in Friday’s first round, shot 324 Saturday for a two-day total of 636 at The Ohio State University Scarlet Course to finish nine strokes better than St. Charles Prep and Upper Arlington (345). St. Xavier finished eighth with a 672 (332-340). Moeller is the second GCL South school ton win a state golf championship, with St. Xavier winning titles in 1995 and 2008.
Senior Ben Sattler led Moeller, finishing tied for third overall with a 10-over 154 (76-78). The Crusaders got great efforts from all members o9f their team, with junior Jake Fox shooting a 159 (80-79), good for eighth place; senior Nick Gruber at 162 (78-84); senior Quinn Sullivan, also at 162 (79-83), the two tying at No. 16; and junior Michael O’Brien finishing at 164 (79-85), good for a tie at No. 21.
Sophomore Joey McCarthy had the low round for a young St. Xavier team, firing a 163 (78-85) to finish tied at No. 19. Here are the rest of the Bombers’ scores: junior Kirran Magowan 166 (81-85), junior Domenic Maricocchi 171 (85-86), freshman Cameron Frazier 172 (88-84), and junior Paul Maricocchi 188 (95, 93). Junior Wil Efkeman of La Salle, who qualified as an individual, finished the two-day event with a score of 173 (84-89).
