If the St. Xavier soccer team is to extend its winning streak to 12 games and keep its postseason hopes alive, the Bombers will have to get by GCL South colleague Elder in the third meeting between the two schools in tonight’s Cincinnati 4 Sectional Championship. The match begins at 7 at Lakota East High School.  Moeller also hopes to remain alive in the postseason tonight, when the Crusaders play Walnut Hills at 7 at Winton Woods High School.

St. Xavier (14-2-1), the No. 2 seed among all schools competing in Cincinnati-based sectional tournaments, is riding an 11-game winning streak dating back to early September.  The Bombers advanced to the sectional final with a 6-0 victory over Amelia last Thursday.  St. Xavier has recorded five consecutive shutouts and has allowed goals in only two games during its winning streak.

No. 9 seed Elder (7-7-2) got past Princeton, 2-1, on Thursday to set up a rematch with St. Xavier.  The Panthers are the last team to defeat St. Xavier, posting a 1-0 shutout on September 6.  St. Xavier won the second meeting, 3-1, on September 23.

Moeller (8-6-3), the No. 7 seed, advanced to tonight’s match with a 2-0 win over Colerain on Thursday.  Walnut Hills (12-3-2), champion of the Eastern Cincinnati Conference, moved on with a 10-0 win over Mt. Healthy.  Walnut Hills has won or tied 11 of its last 13 matches, and the Eagles defeated Moeller, 2-1, back on August 21 in the season opener for Moeller.
