The St. Xavier soccer team kept two streaks alive Thursday night with a 4-0 victory over Vandalia Butler in the Southwest District 4 Championship at Lakota West High School.  The Bombers erupted for four goals in the second half to extend their winning streak to 13 games while also posting their seventh straight shutout.  St. Xavier, which hasn’t lost since a 1-0 setback to Elder on September 6, has allowed only two goals during the streak.

St. Xavier (16-2-1) advances to meet Lakota East (12-5-3) in the regional semifinals next Wednesday at Sycamore Stadium, which is located at Sycamore Junior High School on Cooper Road.  The match begins at 7 p.m.  Lakota East advanced with a 1-0 win over Walnut Hills in another district final on Thursday.

Bombers’ senior captain Alex Besl broke the scoreless tie 13 minutes in the second half, scoring on a penalty kick to give St. Xavier a 1-0 lead.  Just two minutes later, senior Jack Graves scored on a free kick to make it 2-0.  While that would be all the offense the Bombers would need, senior Mitch Bernert scored two goals in a two-minute period – both on assists from senior Colton Kline – to give St. Xavier the 4-0 victory over Butler (16-3-0).
