Both Elder and La Salle took to the road for tough non-conference football games Friday night, and the two GCL South members returned to their respective campuses with important victories as the teams look to build momentum just two weeks removed from the start of the state playoffs.

Elder (6-3) scored on five of its six first-half drives to build a 35-7 lead after two quarters in a 49-35 victory over Highlands, Northern Kentucky’s No. 1-ranked team, at David Cecil Memorial Stadium in Fort Thomas.  Panthers’ junior quarterback Peyton Ramsey had a huge night, completing 15 of 20 passes for 191 yards and one score, while also rushing 22 times for a game-high 193 yards and four TDs.

La Salle, ranked No. 1 in The Enquirer’s Division II weekly coaches’ poll, had a big night from its trio of playmakers in Nick Watson, Jeremy Larkin and Jarell White, to record a 29-6 victory over at Winton Woods.  Watson, the Lancers’ junior quarterback, connected on 9 of 15 passes for 158 yards and a TD throw to Larkin, to help La Salle (8-1) solidify its postseason position.

The Lancers, No. 1 in the Division II, Region 6 Harbin computer ratings this week, got 88 yards rushing from Larkin, whose 50-yard TD run made it 29-0 in the fourth quarter.  He now has scored a GCL South-leading 21 TDs this season, while White’s 1-yard TD run gives him 14 scores.  La Salle closes the regular season at Elder next Friday, and can earn a share of the GCL South championship with Moeller and St. Xavier with a win.
