St. Xavier Returns To Defend State CC Championship

St. Xavier seniors Michael Vitucci and Brad Eagan finished first and third, respectively, in Saturday’s Ohio High School Athletic Association Troy Regional Cross Country Championships – helping the Bombers come in second behind Mason and earn one of four team berths in the OHSAA State Cross Country Championships to be run Saturday at National Trail Raceway in Hebron.

The Bombers finished the regional meet with a team score of 66, trailing only Mason – which totaled 55.  Lakota East came in third, at 86; and Beavercreek was fourth, at 95, to capture the remaining state qualifying spots.  GCL South members La Salle was sixth, with 190; Elder came in at No. 10, with 286; and Moeller was No. 14, at 347.

Vitucci, the GCL South Runner of the Year who also won the league and district meets, covered the 3.1-mile course at Troy in 15:35.52.  Eagan’s time of 15:44.36 earned him third place after finishing second in both the GCL South Championships and the district meet. Bombers senior Matt Osubor came in sixteenth, finishing with a time of 16:23.13.  St. Xavier’s Gave West came in a No. 23 (16:39.31); Cole Grabowski finished at No. 33 (16:55.31); and Chris Reischel finished at No. 37 (16:57.70).
