A goal by Lakota East’s Jack Harper in the first shootout gave the Thunderhawks a 4-3 victory over St. Xavier in the Ohio High School Athletic Association Region 4 Semifinals Wednesday night at Sycamore Stadium, ending the Bombers’ 13-game winning streak that dates back to September 6.

St. Xavier (16-3-1) and Lakota East, which entered the regional semifinals not having allowed a goal in seven combined postseason matches, displayed that stingy defense for 110 minutes before going to a shootout to determine the winner. Lakota East (13-5-3), which has now won seven straight and has not allowed a postseason goal, advances to meet Beavercreek (19-0-1) in Saturday’s noon regional final.

The loss ends a great season for St. Xavier, which won the GCL South championship and entered Wednesday’s play having won 13 straight matches – only allowing single goals in wins over Elder and Covington Catholic back in in late September during the streak.  St. Xavier finished tied with Beavercreek at No. 3 in the final Associated Press state rankings.
