La Salle Looks To Move Into DII State Semifinals

Led by one of Greater Cincinnati’s most explosive offenses, La Salle looks to move one step closer to the school’s first state football championship when the Lancers meet unbeaten Mt. Healthy in the Ohio High School Athletic Association Division II, Region 6 final at Mason High School tonight.  Kickoff is 7:30 p.m. at Dwire Field at Atrium Stadium, with the winner advancing to the state semifinals.

Both La Salle (11-1) and Mt. Healthy (12-0) have been dominating in the postseason so far. Coach Nate Moore’s team defeated Glen Este, 48-28, in the first round and then beat Harrison, 56-24, last Friday in the regional semifinals behind junior running back Jeremy Larkin – who carried just 15 times for 304 yards and a school single-game record five touchdowns versus Harrison.  Larkin now has rushed for 1,976 yards and 29 TDs, both school records, this season.

La Salle, which has one of the state’s most explosive backfields in Larkin, sophomore running back Jarell White and junior quarterback Nick Watson, will face a stingy Mt. Healthy defense that was the best in the Southwest Ohio Conference all year, allowing just 12 points and 218 yards per game.  Coach Arvie Crouch’s team posted a 39-0 victory over Tecumseh in the first round and then beat previously undefeated Kings, 47-14, last Friday.

The Owls, who played in the regional final last season and led by two TDs before eventual state champion Loveland rallied for a 35-28 win, also have an explosive offense led by junior quarterback David Montgomery – who ran for 206 yards and three TDs against Kings last week.  Montgomery and senior running back Hjavier Pitts have combined to run for almost 3,400 yards and 48 TDs.
