GCL South Teams Tip Off Hoops Season Friday Night

Moeller and St. Xavier opened the 2014-15 basketball season with non-conference home victories Friday, the first night of regular-season play under Ohio High School Athletic Association rules.  Junior guard Trey McBride scored 14 points and was one of 12 players to score in Moeller’s 58-28 interstate win over Ryle, while Josh Theis scored 16 and Jack Westerfield added 12 to lead St. Xavier to a 65-56 win over Turpin.

One day after winning the state football championship, La Salle travels to Hamilton to open its season as part of the inaugural Mercy Health Tipoff Classic.  Tipoff is 7:30 tonight, while Elder doesn’t play its first game until Tuesday, December 9, when the Panthers face Western Hills.  Tipoff is 7:30 at The Pit.  La Salle and St. Xavier also are in action next Tuesday, traveling to Winton Woods and Turpin, respectively.
