Busy Week For GCL South Hoops Begins Tonight

Three of the four GCL South basketball teams are in action tonight, with Elder and La Salle attempting to stay undefeated on the young season.  Elder (2-0) travels to Purcell Marian for a 7:30 p.m. game, while La Salle also looks to make it 3-0 when the Lancers host Northwest at 7:30 p.m.  Moeller attempts to get back on the winning track when the Crusaders (1-1) face North College Hill as part of the inaugural Mercy Health Tipoff Classic.

Tipoff is 7 at Moeller.

St. Xavier, the lone GCL South team that doesn’t play tonight, travels to Centerville for a 7:30 p.m. game Saturday. Behind balanced scoring and a stingy defense, the Bombers have won their first three games.  Elder is the busiest GCL South team this week, playing three games between now and Saturday  and four in eight days – culminating with a game next Tuesday, December 23, at Princeton..

Two of the most intriguing non-conference matchups this week are Aiken at La Salle on Friday, and then Walnut Hills at Elder on Saturday.  Aiken (3-0) is ranked No. 1 in The Enquirer’s Divisions II-IV weekly coaches’ poll; La Salle is No. 3 in Division I.  La Salle beat Aiken, 50-47, last season on the road.  Walnut Hills (4-0) is No. 6 in Division I, while Elder is No. 4.  The Eagles defeated Elder, 59-58, last December at Walnut Hills.
