Elder, La Salle Now 4-0 After Friday Night Victories

Both Elder and La Salle posted non-conference home basketball victories Friday night to remain undefeated.  Elder (4-0), playing the second of four games in eight days, had four players in double figures to record a 63-56 victory over Northwest.  La Salle also was a winner at home, handing Aiken – No. 1 In The Enquirer’s Divisions II-IV weekly coaches’ poll - its first loss of the season, 47-38, behind 23 points from senior forward Donte Buycks.

Elder (4-0), No. 4 in The Enquirer’s Division I poll, got 13 points each from juniors Frankie Hofmeyer, Peyton Ramsey and Nate Roell, while senior Brad Miller added 11 in the win.  It doesn’t get any easier for Elder, which hosts No. 6 Walnut Hills at 7:30 tonight at The Pit. Walnut Hills (5-0) opened Eastern Cincinnati Conference play Friday night with a 64-43 win over Anderson.

No. 3 La Salle got a big offensive night from Buycks, who was 9 of 13 from the field and hit 4 of 5 three-point field goals.  Sophomore guard Tre Crigler also was in double figures with 11, hitting 3 of 6 from long range.  La Salle (4-0)  is off until next Saturday, when the Lancers head to Ocala, Fla. To participate in the Kingdom of the Sun Invitational – where the team will play four games in five days.

St. Xavier and Moeller, off Friday night, both are in action today.  The Bombers (3-0) try to match Elder and La Salle for the unbeaten start when they travel to Centerville for a 7:30 game tonight.  Moeller (2-1) steps out of conference to take on Mt. Healthy on the road. Tipoff is 7:30.
