Elder kept its perfect season alive with a close win over neighborhood rival Oak Hills, while Moeller knocked off defending Kentucky state champion Covington Catholic, and St. Xavier went on the road to notch a victory against Hamilton to enable the GCL South to go 3-for-3 in non-conference basketball games on Tuesday night.  La Salle, the fourth GCL South member, did not play Tuesday evening.

Here is a look at the GCL South games Tuesday:

Elder - Junior guard Frankie Hofmeyer scored a game-high 20 points, hitting three of Elder’s five three-point goals, as the Panthers (12-0) emerged with a 43-30 win over Oak Hills at The Pit to remain undefeated.  Elder, No. 4 in The Enquirer’s Division I coaches’ poll, managed to erase a two-point halftime deficit despite its shooting woes.  The Panthers hit 13 of 33 field goals, 5 of 14 three-point shots, and 12 of 25 free throws.

Moeller – Senior guard Grant Pitman came off the bench to score a game-high 18 points and help Moeller snap a three-game losing streak with a 61-52 win over Covington Catholic at Moeller.  Pitman connected on 7 of 12 field goals, adding two three-point goals, as No. 9 Moeller (9-5) made 21 of 39 field goals (53.8 percent) against CovCath, No. 2 in The Enquirer’s Northern Kentucky weekly coaches’ poll.

St. Xavier – Sophomore guard Sam Martin led a balanced scoring attack with 17 point to help the No. 10 Bombers record a 66-57 victory at Hamilton.  Martin also led St. Xavier (8-3) with five of his team’s nine three-point goals.  Also in double figures were Henry Kuechley (12), Jack Westerfield (11), James Heskett and Joe Schroeder (10 each).  Martin and Schroeder each added five assists as St. Xavier won its second straight.
