Pitman Helps Moeller Keep Winning Streaks Alive

Senior guard Grant Pitman scored a season-high 26 points, including going 8-for-9 from three-point range, to lead Moeller to a 73-41 victory over Taft Saturday at Moeller High School.  The win was the fifth straight for Moeller – No. 8 in The Enquirer’s Division I weekly coaches’ poll – and also extended the Crusaders’ home winning streak to 24 games dating back to Feb. 17, 2012 – when La Salle was the last team to defeat Moeller, 42-34.

Pitman was 9 of 12 from the field, helping Moeller finish 24 of 44 shooting, good for 54.5 percent, and knock down 11 of 16 three-pointers, which is 68.8 percent.  The Crusaders outrebounded Taft, 37-21, and recorded 21 assists – including a game-high eight from junior guard Nate Georgeton.  Junior center Sam McCracken added 12 points and seven rebounds, while junior guard Trey McBride scored 10 and had five rebounds..

Up next for Moeller (11-6, 2-1 GCL South) is No. 2 Elder (16-1, 2-1) at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Moeller.  Elder will attempt to rebound from its first loss of the season last Friday, 61-54, at No. 6 La Salle (14-3).  The Lancers, who have won eight of their last nine games, will host St. Xavier (12-5, 0-3) at 7:30 p.m. Friday.  Elder, La Salle and Moeller are tied atop the GCL South with three league games remaining.
