Just four days after suffering its first loss of the 2014-15 basketball season, a loss at La Salle last Friday that ended a 16-0 start (the school’s best start since the 1971-72 season), Elder took the first step in starting a new streak with a 71-53 victory over GCL Co-Ed member Kettering Alter Tuesday at The Pit.  The Panthers were led by 21 points from junior guard Frankie Hofmeyer, who connected on five of Elder’s 12 three-point goals.

Elder – ranked No. 7 in this week’s Associated Press Division I state poll and No. 3 in The Enquirer’s latest Division I coaches’ ratings – was aided by 12 points from junior Peyton Ramsey and nine points each from senior Brad Miller, all three-pointers, and junior Nick Hall.  Up next for Elder (17-1, 2-1 GCL South) is a trip to No. 7 Moeller (11-6, 2-1), which has won five consecutive games and 24 straight on their its home court.  Tipoff is 7:30 p.m. Friday.

La Salle (14-3, 2-1), tied with Elder and Moeller atop the GCL South entering the second half of league play, attempts to keep pace Friday when the No. 4 Lancers host No. 10 St. Xavier (12-5, 0-3).  La Salle has won eight of its last nine games, the lone defeat at 42-38 overtime setback at Moeller back on January 23.  Lancers sophomore guard C.J. Fleming leads the GCL South in scoring, averaging 16.4 points per game.
