La Salle, Moeller Advance With In Sectional Hoops

La Salle and Moeller opened their postseason basketball journeys with sectional tournament wins over the weekend. Moeller had 10 players score in a 55-19 victory over Sycamore Friday at Fairfield High School, while junior guard Tre Crigler scored a team-high 18 points to lead La Salle to a 73-56 win over Western Hills Saturday night in a game at Fairfield.

La Salle (18-5), which also got 16 points from junior guard Nick Watson and 12 from senor forward Donte Buycks, advances to meet Hamilton in the Cincinnati 3 Sectional at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at a location to be announced. Hamilton moved on with a 69-45 victory over Glen Este Saturday.  La Salle beat Hamilton in the season opener, winning 42-34 at Hamilton on December 6 - one day after the Lancers won the state football championship.

Moeller (15-8) will face Ross in the Cincinnati 5 Sectional at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Fairfield High School.  The Crusaders were led by senior forward Grant Pitman, who scored 11 points, and junior guard Trey McBride who added 10 points and nine rebounds.  Moeller outscored Sycamore, 19-3, in the third quarter and 36-11 in the second half to win its second straight game.

Elder and St. Xavier, which did not play over the weekend, also are in action Tuesday. Elder (20-2) renews its neighborhood rivalry with Oak Hills in the Cincinnati 4 Sectional at Hamilton High School.  Tipoff is 6 p.m.  Oak Hills advanced with a 59-46 win over Little Miami Saturday.  Elder defeated the Highlanders, 43-40, at Elder back in the regular season on January 13 – one of the Panthers’ 16 straight wins to start the season.

St. Xavier (14-8)  will play Turpin in the Cincinnati 2 Sectional at Lakota West High School. Tipoff is 6 p.m. Tuesday at Lakota West High School.  The Bombers opened the regular season with a 65-56 over Turpin at St. Xavier way back on December 5.  Senior guard Josh Theis scored 16 points and senior guard Jack Westerfield added 12 for St. Xavier in that victory.  Turpin advanced with a 64-42 win over Amelia Friday.
