GCL South Members Could Face Each Other In Regional

GCL South members La Salle and Moeller will attempt to win district baseball championships today and, in the process, continue their postseason journeys in what could eventually wind up being a meeting in the regional final between the league rivals for a berth in the Ohio High School Athletic Association State Tournament in Columbus.  But first things first in today’s district games.

La Salle (23-6), which defeated GCL South colleague Elder, 1-0, behind senior pitcher Ryan Ernst in Thursday’s district final, plays Hamilton (17-12) for the Cincinnati I district championships at Arch McCartney Stadium at Western Hills High School.  First pitch is 3 p.m.  The Lancers enter the game riding a seven-game winning streak.

Moeller (26-3) is looking for another trip to Columbus.  The Crusaders, winners of two of the last three state baseball titles and six straight games this season, advanced to the state semifinals last season before falling to Massillon Jackson, 4-2.  Moeller will oppose Beavercreek (18-10) in the Lebanon 2 district 2 district final, at 11 this morning.  The game is at Lebanon Junior High School, which is where Lebanon plays its varsi9ty game.

If victorious today, La Salle and Moeller would advance to the Region 4 (Cincinnati) semifinals Thursday at University of Cincinnati’s Marge Schott Stadium.  Moeller  would meet the Cincinnati 2 district champion at 2 p.m., followed by La Salle taking on the Lebanon 1 winner at 5.
