La Salle’s Thompson To Compete In Two Events This Week

Field athletes Robbie Oswald of Elder, Connor Stelljes of St. Xavier and Jordan Thompson of La Salle, along with St. Xavier runner Brad Eagan, will represent the GCL South by competing in the Ohio High School Athletic Association Track & Field State Championships to be held Friday and Saturday at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium on The Ohio State University campus in Columbus.

All of the GCL South athletes qualified at last week’s Division I Southwest Regional meet at Welcome Stadium in Dayton.  The top four finishers in each event at regionals earned a trip to the state meet.  Thompson – who will play football this fall at Northwestern Univeristy - qualified in two events after finishing second in the shot put, behind regional champion Stelljes, and fourth in the discus throw.

Oswald, who tied for second at regional competition, advances in the pole vault, while Eagan moves on in the 1600-meter run after coming in second in Dayton.   Division I running preliminaries are scheduled to begin at 4:45 p.m. Friday, with the running finals at 4:30 p.m. Saturday.  The Division I Field Event finals are split into two groups of five events, one at noon on Saturday and the other at 3 p.m. that day.
