Bombers To Face Upper Arlington For State Title

For the second straight game, St. Xavier got off to a fast start and cruised to victory, this time posting a 14-3 win over Olentangy Liberty in the Ohio High School Lacrosse Association Division I state semifinals Wednesday night at Kings High School.  The win earns St. Xavier a berth in Saturday’s state championship game at 3:30 p.m. at New Albany High School.

There, St. Xavier (17-5) will face Upper Arlington (17-5), the defending state champion that knocked off Cleveland St. Ignatius in Wednesday’s other semifinal.  St. Xavier beat Upper Arlington, 10-3, earlier during the regular season.  The Bombers also advanced to the state semifinals last season, but lost to Dublin Jerome.

Against Liberty, senior captain William Holcomb scored three early goals to help the Bombers set the tone.  St. Xavier also was strong against GCL South colleague Moeller in the regional final, scoring four times in the first two minutes and taking a 9-0 lead after one quarter on its way to a 16-5 win.  Senior goalie Alex Deters was solid against Liberty, not allowing a from the 7:22 mark of the second quarter.
