St. Xavier Looks To Continue Recent Dominance In South

The Greater Catholic League South Division and the Girls’ Greater Catholic League will hold their annual cross country championships Saturday morning at The Golf Center at Kings Island in Mason.  Competition will take place on the same course as runners covered during the Moeller Primetime Invitational that was held in late August.

St. Xavier is the defending GCL South champion, and the Bombers are looking to win their fifth consecutive league title. Michael Vitucci from St. Xavier finished first in last year’s league championships, covering the 5K course at St. Xavier in a league-best 16:22.70, with teammate  Brad Eagan finishing second with a time of 16:25.74.  Mercy has won the last two GGCL championships.

Here is a race schedule for the GCL Championships: 9 a.m. – Boys’ 2-Mile Freshman Race; 9:30 – Girls’ Varsity 5K Race; 10:00 – Boys’ Varsity & JV 5 K race; 10:30 – Girls’ JV Race; 11:00 – Boys’ Open Race; 11:30 – Girls’ Open Race; Noon – Awards .

Admission to the races is $4 for adults and $2 for students ages 5 to 18.  Parking will be located on the driving range at The Golf Center at Kings Island.  Please note that the Ohio High School Athletic Association Girls’ State Tennis Tournament also will be taking place on property, and attendees of that event also will be parking in the same location.  Attendants will be on hand to assist fans with parking and directions to the competition.
