Bombers Advance To State Championship Next Saturday

St. Xavier earned a trip to the Ohio High School Athletic Association Division I Cross Country Championships by turning in a runner-up finish to defending state champion Mason last Saturday in the regional meet at Troy High School.  The Bombers finished with 62 points, second to Mason’s 35, to earn one of the four team slots to the state meet – which is this Saturday at National Trail Raceway in Hebron.

Sycamore (105) and Beavercreek (112) finished third and fourth, respectively, to earn berths in the state meet.  La Salle, which finished second to St. Xavier in both the Greater Catholic League South Division championship and the Southwest District race at Voice of America Park in West Chester two Saturdays ago, narrowly missed qualifying for state.  The Lancers came in sixth at regionals, with 190 points.

Senior Austin Angeline was St. Xavier’s top individual finisher, placing eighth after covering the 5K course in 16:07.2.  He was followed by junior Chris Reischel (13), 16:16.6; sophomore Jonathan Stansbury (15), 16:16.7; sophomore Peter Dauenhauer (20), 16:27.6; and junior Will Morgan (25), 16:39.6, rounding out St. Xavier’s scoring in the meet.
