Bombers Begin Jimmy Lallathin Era At Badin Tonight

St. Xavier opens the 2015-16 Greater Catholic League South Division basketball season tonight, when first-year coach Jimmy Lallathin and the Bombers travel to Hamilton to take on GCL Co-Ed member Badin in the season opener.  Badin defeated Talawanda, 69-42, on Friday - the first day that boys’ teams could play regular-season games according to the calendar set forth by the Ohio High School Athletic Association.

Lallathin comes to St. Xavier after a four-year coaching stint at Kennesaw State University, where he served most recently as the program’s interim head coach after working as an associate and assistant head coach at the NCAA Division I Atlantic Sun Conference member school.   Before joining the staff at Kennesaw, Lallathin was an assistant coach at Miami University.

Before joining the college ranks, which began with a coaching stop at Miami University, Lallathin spent four years as an assistant at his alma mater, Lakota West High School.  A three-year varsity starter for the Firebirds during his varsity career, Lallathin spent four seasons as the Lakota West boys’ varsity associate head coach.  St. Xavier finished 14-9 last season, including 0-6 in the GCL South.

Moeller and Elder, respectively, open their seasons next week.  Moeller (18-9, 4-2 in GCL South in 2014-15) hosts Kings in its opening game on Tuesday, December 1, at 7:30 p.m.  Elder (22-3, 4-2) opens against Winton Woods at 7:30 p.m. Friday, December 4, at The Pit.  La Salle (20-6, 4-2), still in the state football playoffs, is the last GCL South school to begin its season – traveling to Northwest at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, December 8.

BOMBERS MOVE GAME:  St. Xavier has moved its scheduled home opener back to accommodate Bishop Fenwick’s run in the Division IV state football playoffs.  The game, originally scheduled for Tuesday, December 1, will now be played on Wednesday, December 9, at St. Xavier, with start times at 4:30 (freshman), 6 (junior varsity) and 7:30 (varsity).  St. Xavier’s home opener will now be Saturday, December 5, against Centerville.
