Bombers Begin Lallathin Era With Victory At Hamilton Badin

Senior guard Johnny Bubenhofer scored a team-high 15 points and senior forward Blake Anderson came off the bench to add 11 to help St. Xavier open the Greater Catholic League South Division basketball season with a 50-33 victory over GCL Co-Ed member Badin in Hamilton Saturday night – giving Bombers’ Jimmy Lallathin a win in his first game as St. Xavier’s varsity coach.

St. Xavier’s defense limited Badin (1-1) to 31.4 percent shooting, as the Rams connected on 11-of-35 field goals.  The Bombers, who hit 20-of-44 field goals (45.5 percent) were led in rebounding by sophomore forward Bobby Jefferson, who pulled down seven boards.  St. Xavier (1-0), which moved its game against Bishop Fenwick from Tuesday to Wednesday, December 9, opens its home season at 7:30 p.m. Saturday against Centerville.

Moeller is the next GCL South team in action, hosting Kings at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.  Elder opens its varsity season by playing Winton Woods at The Pit at 7:30 p.m. Friday, while La Salle doesn’t play its first game until traveling to Northwest at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, December 8.  La Salle will play for a second straight Division II state football championship against Massillon Perry at 8 p.m. Friday at Ohio Stadium in Columbus.
