Lancers Look For Two-Year Unbeaten Streak In Playoffs

La Salle all will attempt to successfully defend its state football championship Friday night, when the Lancers meet Massillon Perry in the Ohio High School Athletic Association Division II State Championship.  Kickoff is scheduled for 8 p.m. at Ohio Stadium in Columbus.

The Lancers currently own a nine-game unbeaten streak in the postseason, which includes five consecutive wins last season on their way to winning the school’s first state football title.  La Salle (12-2) has won all four of its state playoff games this season, including a come-from behind 49-28 win over previously undefeated Perrysburg in the state semifinals last Friday night in Piqua.  Perry (12-2) has won seven straight games.

Led by senior running back Jeremy Larkin, who was named Ohio Division II Co-Offensive Player of the Year by the Associated Press earlier this week, the Lancers have scored 42 or more points each of their four playoff wins.  Larkin has accounted for nearly 2,500 total yards this season, including 1,829 yards rushing and 28 touchdowns on the ground.  The University of Cincinnati commit has scored 36 total TDs this season.

Larkin shares the offensive honor with Perry senior running back Keishaun Sims, who has run for 3,108 yards and scored 43 touchdowns heading into Friday’s state final against the Lancers.  Should La Salle win again, the Lancers will become the first Division II school to repeat as state champion since St. Marys Memorial won back-to-back titles in 1992 and 1993.
