Elder, Moeller Record Basketball Wins Friday

St. Xavier Set To Open Home Season Against Centerville Tonight

Elder and Moeller each posted double-digit victories Friday night, with the Panthers knocking off Winton Woods, 65-45, in the their opener of the 2015-16 varsity basketball season at The Pit.  Moeller, which tipped off its season with a win over Kings last Tuesday,  traveled to Union, Ky. to defeat Ryle, 59-43, in the Crusaders’ first road game of the season.

St. Xavier (1-0), a winner at Hamilton Badin eight days ago, has its home opener against Centerville at 7:30 tonight. La Salle, which captured the Ohio Division II state football championship Friday night, begins its basketball season on Tuesday when the Lancers travel to Northwest for a 7:30 p.m. non-conference game.

Elder (1-0) jumped out to a 39-21 halftime lead and coasted to an opening win against Winton Woods (1-1).  The Panthers were led by senior guard Frankie Hofmeyer, who scored 27 points and connected on six of the Panthers’ 11 three-point goals.  Hofmeyer was joined in double figures by senior forward Ryan Custer, who scored 15 and knocked down three three-pointers.  Senior Peyton Ramsey also had two three-pointers for Elder.

The Panthers’ next opponents is  Northwest on Friday, December 11, at 7:30 p.m. at home.  The game is part of the second Mercy Health Tipoff Classic

Moeller (2-0) was led by 13 points off the bench from sophomore guard Isaiah Peyton and 11 points and six assists from senior guard Nate Georgeton.  Peyton connected on 4-of-5 field goals, including 3-of-4 from three-point range, against Ryle (1-1).  Junior guard Caleb Carter had a team-high 10 rebounds, while senior forward Sam McCracken had eight rebounds and five blocked shots for the Crusaders.

Coach Carl Kremer’s team, ranked Nol. 1 in The Enquirer’s Division I area coaches’ poll, jumped out to a 9-2 lead after the first quarter and extended the advantage to 29-14 at halftime.   The Crusaders, who overcame 21 turnovers, host Mt. Healthy on Saturday, December 12, at 7:30 p.m.
