Elder, Moeller Stay Unbeaten With Friday Night Wins

GCL South Hoop Teams Head Into Saturday With 14-2 Combined  Record

Elder posted its fifth victory in the last 11 days Friday night, improving its record to 5-0 with a 50-32 win over Cincinnati Hills Christian Academy at The Pit, while Moeller defeated Winton Woods, 58-36, at Moeller to remain a perfect 4-0 and give the Greater Catholic League South Division basketball teams a combined 14-2 record heading into non-conference games slated for tonight.

Seniors Frankie Hofmeyer and Nick Hall each scored in double figures, with 14 and 10 points, respectively, while senior Peyton Ramsey added nine points and five rebounds to help Elder – No. 2 in The Enquirer’s Division I area coaches’ poll – pull away in the third quarter by outscoring the Eagles, 22-12, to open a 15-point advantage.  The Panthers shot 51.4 percent (19-of-37) from the field and converted 8-of-10 free throws.

Moeller, No. 1 in The Enquirer’s Division I poll, played for the first time since last Saturday and got 17 points, five rebounds and three steals from senior guard Trey McBride, while senior forward Sam McCracken added 10 points, three rebounds and two blocked shots in its win.  McBride and McCracken combined to go 11-of-15 from the field for Moeller, which made 21-of-38 field goals (55.2 percent) an knocked down 10-of-13 free throws.

Elder and Moeller are back in action today, with Elder hosting Withrow at 4 p.m. and Moeller traveling to Centerville at 7:30 p.m.  La Salle (3-0), No. 3 in The Enquirer’s Division I poll, is off this weekend before hosting GCL Co-Ed member McNicholas at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.  St. Xavier (2-2) also has the weekend off before traveling to face Greater Miami Conference member Princeton at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.
