Panthers Defeat Withrow For Sixth Victory In 12 Days

Senior Ryan Custer scored 15 points and grabbed five rebounds, and teammates Frankie Hofmeyer and Nick Hall also scored in double figures to lead Elder to a 63-46 victory over Withrow Saturday at The Pit – the Panthers’ sixth victory in 12 days to open the season.  Elder is 5-0 at home this season and has now won 15 consecutive in Price Hill – the last loss coming to Moeller, 55-52, in overtime back on January 31, 2014.

Speaking of Moeller, the Crusaders – No. 1 in The Enquirer’s Division I area coaches’ poll – also remain undefeated by posting a 55-49 victory at Centerville Saturday night.  Senior guard Trey McBride paced Moeller (5-0) with 15 points and six rebounds.  Senior Sam McCracken added 12 points, while junior Kegan McDowell also had 12 to go along with nine rebounds.  Senior guard Nate Georgeton had a team-high nine assists.

Both Elder and Moeller close out their December schedules in Cincinnati on Tuesday, before both teams leave for tournaments over the holiday break.  NO. 2 Elder, which connected on 25-of-41 field goals (61 percent) against Withrow, hosts Hamilton (5-4) at 7:30.  Moeller, which will participate in the prestigious Beach Ball Classic in Myrtle Beach, S.C., later this week, plays Oak Hills (6-1) at Moeller at 7:30.

La Salle (3-0) and St. Xavier (2-2) did not play over the weekend, but both Greater Catholic League South Division members return to action Tuesday.  The No. 3 Lancers host GCL Co-Ed member McNicholas (2-2) at 7:30, while St. Xavier travels to Greater Miami Conference member Princeton (2-5) at 7:30.  The GCL South is off to a solid start, posting a 16-2 records against non-conference opponents through the weekend.
