Crusaders Fall To Unbeaten Seton Hall Prep In Beach Ball Classic

Senior guards Trey McBride and Nate Georgeton scored 11 and 10 points, respectively, but it wasn’t enough to prevent Moeller from suffering its first defeat of the season, 39-33, to unbeaten Seton Hall Prep from West Orange, N.J. on Sunday as part of the prestigious Beach Ball Classic in Myrtle Beach, S.C.   Moeller is ranked No. 1 in The Enquirer’s Division I area coaches’ poll.

Moeller (7-1) trailed by as many as 11 points in the first half, but the Crusaders rallied to take their first lead of the game at 27-25 on a layup by junior guard Caleb Canter with 9:50 remaining in the game.    Moeller then snapped a 31-31 tie on a layup by Georgeton with 2:48 left, but Seton Hall Prep (5-0) scored the final eight points to win the quarterfinal-round matchup.  Moeller was guilty of three turnovers in its final five possessions.

The Crusaders don’t play again until noon Wednesday, when coach Carl Kremer’s team will meet either Montverde Academy, Fla. or St. Francis from Alpharetta, Ga. In the next round.  The other three Greater Catholic League South Division teams will take the court in holiday events that tip off today.  No. 2 Elder (7-0) is competing in the Fort Lauderdale Beach Classic, which the Panthers won last season.

No. 3 La Salle (4-0) is returning to the Kingdom of the Sun in Ocala, Fla., with the Lancers scheduled to open that event by facing Lakewood Ranch (10-2) from Bradenton, Fla. at 1:30 this afternoon.  St. Xavier (2-4) is playing  in the St. Pius X Christmas Classic just outside of Atlanta.  The Bombers open play by taking on McGill-Toolen (15-2) from Mobile, Ala. at 4 today at St. Pius X High School.
