Elder, La Salle Host Non-Conference Games Tonight

Elder and La Salle take a brief respite from the Greater Catholic League South Division tonight, with both schools hosting non-conference basketball games.  Elder, fresh off its league win at St. Xavier Saturday, hosts classic rival Western Hills at The Pit, while La Salle looks to extend its unbeaten streak to six games when the Lancers host Turpin. Both varsity games tip off at 7:30.

Ranked No. 3 in The Enquirer’s Division I area coaches’ poll this week, Elder (12-3) is looking to make it two straight wins after moving to within one-half game of Moeller in the GCL South standings with a 51-40 win at St. Xavier.  The Panthers are led by senior guard Frankie Hofmeyer, who is second in the league in scoring, averaging 17.5 points per game.  Western Hills (4-12) is looking to snap a four-game losing streak.

No. 4 La Salle (13-2) hasn’t played since a 61-53 win in overtime last Tuesday at Oak Hills, which improved the Lancers to 6-1 this month – the lone loss at Elder, 56-50, back on January 8.  La Salle is led by junior guard C.J. Fleming, who leads the GCL South in scoring at 20.1 points.  Turpin (6-9) snapped a five-game losing streak last Thursday with an 83-57 win over Glen Este.

Both Elder and La Salle are unbeaten at home this season.
