Crusaders Attempt To Extend Streak, Keep Postseason Hopes Alive

Moeller will attempt to win its fifth straight game Tuesday night against Winton Woods and, in the process, advance to the finals of the Ohio High School Athletic Association Cincinnati Sectional 3 Tournament.  The game, originally scheduled to be played at Hamilton High School, has been moved to Fairfield because OHSAA rules prohibit teams from playing tournament games on their home court.  Tipoff is 7:30 p.m.

Fairfield, Hamilton and Lakota West are all serving as sectional host venues.  All three teams are still alive in the tournament.

The Crusaders (20-3), who opened the postseason with a 59-40 victory over Sycamore last Thursday, are looking to move into Friday’s sectional final.  Moeller will oppose the winner of Loveland-Oak Hills for the chance to advance to the Southwest District final.  Moeller, which defeated Oak Hills, 42-39, December 22 at Moeller, advanced to the regional semifinals last year before falling to Springfield, 51-47.

Elder and La Salle also are vying to make the sectional finals.  Should that occur, the Greater Catholic South Division rivals would meet for the third time this season after splitting two regular-season games.  Elder (18-4), which has won five straight games, meets Glen Este (3-19) in a Cincinnati Sectional 2 semifinal at 6 p.m. Wednesday.  The game was originally scheduled for West, but has been moved to Hamilton.

La Sale (19-3) will play its semifinal game at West, facing Colerain (1-21) at 7:30 Wednesday.  The Lancers have won 11 of their last 12 games.  If the seeds hold up, Elder and La Salle will play in the sectional final at West at 7:30 p.m. Saturday.   Elder defeated La Sale, 56-50, at The Pit on January 8, but La Salle knocked off the Panthers, 39-37, on its home court on January 29.  Elder, La Salle and Moeller tied for the GCL South championship.
