Four Wrestlers Remain Alive In Today’s Consolation Semifinals

There are four wrestlers representing Greater Catholic League South Division schools that are still alive in today’s consolation bracket of the Ohio High School Athletic Association State Individual Wrestling Tournament at the Schottenstein Center on The Ohio State university campus in Columbus.

Sophomore Austin Murphy of Elder, junior Corey Shie of La Salle, and seniors Jacoby Ward and Jack Meyer from Moeller all will wrestle matches in the consolation bracket at 10 this morning.  Following the opening competition, matches to determine who finishes in third, fifth and seventh place in the Division I state tournament will be wrestled concurrently beginning at 11 a.m.

Murphy, competing at 126 pounds, lost his first match in Thursday’s opening session and then reeled off three consecutive wins in the consolation bracket to set up a match today against Alan Hart of Lakewood St. Edward.  Shie, wrestling at 132 pounds, made it to the championship semifinals before falling.  He then won two matches Friday to say alive and will oppose St. Edward’s Sam Dover in today’s consolation bracket.

Ward, a senior and three-time state placer, looks for his fourth straight victory when he takes on Jack Conway of St. Edward this morning.  Ward lost in the first round Thursday, but has rallied to win three consecutive matches at 152 pounds.  Meyer, also a senior for the Crusaders, is alive at 220 pounds.  He looks to make it three straight wins when he faces Eddie Sternad of Brecksville-Broadview Heights this morning.
