Elder, La Salle And St. Xavier Look To Advance In Tourney Tonight

Three members of the Greater Catholic League South Division look to keep their postseason runs alive tonight, when Elder, La Salle and St. Xavier play for Division I district championships and berths in the regional semifinals when the Ohio High School Athletic Association State Soccer Tournament resumes this evening.

La Salle (14-2-2), which captured the GCL South championship outright, is vying to extend its winning streak to eight matches when it plays Springboro (8-4-3) in the Southwest District 3 championship at 7 p.m. at Princeton High School.  The Lancers, led by senior goalkeeper Nate Logan, have allowed just four goals all season and are coming off six shutouts during its current streak – including a 3-0 win over Walnut Hills in the postseason opener and a 2-0 victory against Sycamore on Monday.

La Salle has not allowed more than one goal in any match this season.

St. Xavier (11-5-2), which finished just behind La Salle in the GCL South standings, also is riding a hot streak into its match against No. 1 seed Beavercreek (15-1-1) in the Southwest District I championship at 7:30 tonight at Lakota East High School.  The Bombers have won five straight and have not been beaten in their last seven matches, including a 3-1 victory against Fairfield on Monday to keep its postseason quest moving forward.  Like La Salle, St. Xavier also is undefeated in the month of October and looks to advance to the regional tournament.

Elder (6-8-4), which ended the regular season with four consecutive losses, has come alive in the postseason – recording back-to-back shutouts against Colerain, 3-0, in the tournament opener last Thursday, followed by a 1-0 win in overtime Monday against Lakota West.  The Panthers look to make it three straight when they face Anderson (14-2-2) in the Southwest District 2 championship at 7 tonight at Hamilton High School.

District champions advance to the regional semifinals next Wednesday.
