OHSAA Announces Sites For Friday’s State Football Playoffs

Greater Catholic League South Division members La Salle and St. Xavier will have to defeat a pair of unbeaten to keep their respective state football championship quests alive, when the Ohio High School Athletic Association State Football Tournament resumes with regional semifinal games this week.

La Salle (9-2), vying for a three-peat at the Division II level, plays Turpin (11-0) in the Region 8 semifinals at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Lakota West’s Firebird Stadium.  The Lancers have won seven straight games this season and own an 11-game postseason winning streak that resulted in consecutive state titles.  La Salle held on to defeat Edgewood, 23-21, at Lancer Stadium last Friday, while Turpin beat Harrison, 41-14, at home.  Turpin is the region’s No. 2 seed, while La Salle is No. 3.  No. 1 Troy (10-1) meets No. 4 Miamisburg (9-2) in the other semifinal. 

St. Xavier (6-5), which forced five turnovers in a 35-14 road victory at Fairfield last Friday, earns another shot at top-ranked Colerain (11-0) in the Division I, Region 4 semifinals at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Hamilton’s Virgil M. Schwarm Stadium.  Colerain, the state’s top-ranked team and region’s No. 1 seed, got past Springboro, 35-14, in its playoff opener last Friday at Colerain.  The Cardinals defeated No. 5 seed St. Xavier, 20-14, in overtime in week two of the regular season at St. Xavier.  Mason (7-4) and Sycamore (7-4) meet in the other semifinal game Friday.

Advance tickets to regional semifinal games are available at the participating schools, with the schools keeping apportion of the pre-sale revenues.  Advance tickets are $8; tickets at the gate are $9.  Fans are encouraged to check with each school for their individual ticket office hours.
