La Salle, St. Xavier Teams Invited By Bengals To Attend NFL Game

Members of the La Salle and St. Xavier high school state champion football teams, along with Beechwood’s title winning team from Northern Kentucky, will be recognized on the scoreboard during the Bengals-Ravens game today at Paul Brown Stadium.  Players and coaches from the three Greater Cincinnati state winning teams have been invited by the Bengals to attend the 1 p.m. regular-season finale and be shown on the PBS scoreboard during the game.

La Salle defeated Massillon Perry, 14-7, to win its third straight Ohio Division II state title – becoming the first team in state history to three-peat at that level.  The Lancers and coach Jim Hilvert became the first Cincinnati school to win three consecutive state crowns since Moeller won Class AAA (big school) state crowns in 1975, 1976 and 1977.

St. Xavier capped an amazing run through the Division I state playoffs by defeating Cleveland St. Ignatius, 27-20, in double overtime in the state final to win the school’s third state crown – also winning in 2005 and 2007.  The Bombers and coach Steve Specht entered the postseason at 5-5 and, by winning the state championship, because the first team in Ohio High School Athletic Association history to win a state crown with five losses.

Beechwood, a perennial small-school state power located in Fort Mitchell, won state title No. 12 for the school and its first since 2008 with a 21-14 victory over Hazard in the Kentucky Class 1A state final in Bowling Green last month.  Coach Noel Rash’s team ended with season with a 14-1 record.

The Bengals-Ravens game will be shown live on Local 12.
