Panther Wrestlers Win Titles In Six Different Weight Classes

Six Elder wrestlers won their respective weight classes to help the Panthers post a convincing victory in the Catholic Invitational Tournament held this past weekend on the campus of Otterbein University in Westerville.  Elder finished with a team score of 297.5 points to win the 12-school big school division.  Greater Catholic League South Division colleagues Moeller finished fifth (115.5) and St. Xavier eighth (50.0) in the annual two-day event.

In all, Elder won six championships, earned one consolation, had three wrestlers come in third, and three more place.  Victorious Panthers were William Doepker (106 pounds), Jake Meridieth (132), Connor Craig (152), Ti’Ric Evans (160), Antonio McCloud (220) and Alec Moore-Nash (285).  Elder’s Chucky Lipps finished second at 126, losing in the final match to Jordan Ward of Moeller.  Ward and Brett Bryant (195) captured individual weight class titles for Moeller.

Elder’s Austin Murphy (145), Xavier Weathersby (170) and Charles Sanders (182) finished third, while Jackson Geiser (113) came in fourth, Seth Lambers was  fifth (120) and D.J. Melillo came in sixth (132).  Moeller had one other wrestler place, in Zach Taylor at 152.  Taylor was defeated by Connor Yauss of St. Xavier, who finished third in that weight class.  The Bombers’ James Krusinski (113) finished fifth, while teammate Paul Hulefeld was sixth at 195.
