Panthers Rally Against Roger Bacon, Lancers Extend Win Streak

Elder and La Salle both posted close victories over teams from the Greater Catholic League Co-Ed Division in basketball games Tuesday night.  Elder rallied from a three-point deficit after three quarters to defeat Roger Bacon, 57-54, at The Pit.  La Salle held McNicholas scoreless in overtime to post a 60-50 win on the road to extend the Lancers’ unbeaten streak to six games and set up a showdown with GCL South leader and undefeated Moeller on Friday night at La Salle.

Trailing 40-37 after three quarters, Elder (8-8) outscored visiting Roger Bacon, 20-14, in the final eight minutes to even its record.   Senior guard Shaun Sullivan led the Panthers with 16 points, while junior guard Brett Marsh added 11 – including two three-pointers.  Junior guard Zach Harp chipped in with eight, a week after he scored 68 points in three games, including a career-high 30 one week earlier against Western Hills.  Senior guard Craig McGee scored a game-high 21 for Roger Bacon, while sophomore guard Pfriem had 17 for Roger Bacon (13-4).

Senior guard Tre Crigler scored a game-high 19 points for La Salle (15-2), which overcame a rare off shooting night by senior guard C.J. Fleming – who was held to single digits for the first time in six games, finishing with nine points on 3-of-8 shooting, including 0-of-4 from three-point range.  Fleming had scored 18 or more points in the previous five games.  Da’Meak Brandon also scored in double figures for La Salle, adding 13 points on 6-of-8 shooting.  La Salle is now 9-1 this calendar year, the lone loss at Moeller, 49-39, back on January 13.
