Junior Varsity This Morning, With Varsity To Follow In Afternoon

The Greater Catholic League South Division Wrestling Championships are today at Elder High School, with the junior varsity competition (consisting of a combined freshman/JV tournament) beginning with weigh-ins at 8 and first-round matches at 9:30 this morning.  The varsity, to be held as a dual meet format between the four league schools, has weigh-ins scheduled for 3 p.m. and the first match, determined by seeding, set to start at 4.   The second round is at 6, followed by the final match between first-round winners at 8.

Host Elder is the defending GCL champion, having captured last year’s 10-team varsity competition that was held at Bishop Fenwick High School and contained the four GCL South schools and the six teams from the GCL Co-ed Division.  The Panthers sent eight wrestlers to the finals, capturing three weight class titles (Austin Murphy at 126, Samuel Williams 145, and Ti’Ric Evans 170) to finish ahead of runner-up Moeller – which won the GCL title the previous two years.

Admission is $7 for adults and $5 for students and Senior Citizens.
