Unbeaten Moeller To Begin Postseason Journey Wednesday

St. Xavier gave the Greater Catholic League South Division a 3-0 record in the postseason with a 51-40 win over Lakota West Saturday in the Cincinnati 3 Sectional Tournament at Hamilton High School.  The victory was the third in as many days for the league in sectional play, with La Salle and Elder winning opening-round games Thursday and Friday, respectively.  Top seed Moeller (22-0), the lone league team yet to play, will oppose Little Miami in the Cincinnati 4 Sectional semifinals at 6 p.m. Wednesday at Hamilton.

Little Miami (13-10) advanced with a 54-42 win over Harrison on Saturday.

Saturday’s win was the second this season for St. Xavier (9-14) over Lakota West, having defeated the Firebirds, 57-39, in mid-January on the road.  Senior forward Bobby Jefferson had team highs of 11 points and six rebounds for St. Xavier, which built a 10-point halftime lead against West (7-16) and maintained the advantage and record its second straight victory.  Daniel Keyes and Matthew Budde each added seven points for St. Xavier.  The Bombers advance to meet Mason in the sectional semifinals at 8 p.m. Wednesday at Lakota West.

Elder and La Salle play Tuesday in their respective sectional semifinals.  The Panthers (11-11), who defeated Hamilton, 53-42, Friday in the opening round of the Cincinnati I Sectional, meet Northwest (16-6), the Southwest Ohio Conference champion, at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Lakota West.  La Salle (20-3), which tipped off GCL South postseason play with a 60-45 win over Winton Woods in the Cincinnati 3 Sectional on Thursday, plays Western Hills (6-16) at the same time 6 p.m. Tuesday night at Hamilton.
