Crusaders, Bombers To Play On Consecutive Nights In Tourney

Greater Catholic League South Division members Moeller and St. Xavier are one victory away from playing in the Division I, Region 4 final for a berth in the Ohio High School Athletic Association State Lacrosse Tournament set for June 3 at Ohio Wesleyan University in Delaware.  But first, the GCL South colleagues must get past challenging opponents today and tomorrow to set up an all-GCL South regional final later this week.

Moeller, the No. 6 seed in the region, will take on No. 2 seed Mason at 7 tonight at Mason High School.  Top seed St. Xavier hosts No. 4 seed Milford at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at St. Xavier High School.  The winners advance to the regional final on Saturday at a site and time to be determined.  The first state tournament sanctioned by the OHSAA is set to begin with semifinal matches on Wednesday, May 31 at Ohio Wesleyan’s Selby Stadium.

Since losing three straight matches early this month, including an 11-9 setback to Mason, Moeller (13-7) has reeled off five consecutive wins – including convincing postseason victories over Sycamore and Springboro.  St. Xavier (16-4), the No. 1-ranked team in the Midwest according to the power rankings, enters its game against Milford coming off convincing wins over Walnut Hills and Lakota West in the regional tournament.   St. Xavier beat Milford in the season opener, 22-5, back on March 20.
