Moeller To Face La Salle-St. X Winner, Elder Also Alive

The Greater Catholic League South Division will be well represented when the Ohio High School Boys’ Volleyball Association Division I Regional Tournament resumes matches this evening.  Moeller, which defeated Sycamore in straight sets Tuesday in the South Region #1 semifinals, awaits the winner of GCL colleagues La Salle and St. Xavier in Saturday’s regional championship game.  La Salle travels to St. Xavier in the other Region #1 semifinal at 6 tonight.

Elder, the fourth GCL South team still alive in the postseason, is competing in the South Region #2 bracket.  The Panthers take on Princeton at 7:30 tonight at Elder.  Fairfield will play Oak Hills in the first semifinal at 6 at Elder, with the winners scheduled to meet in the Region #2 title match at 7 p.m. Saturday at Elder.  The regional champions advance to the OHSBVA State Tournament scheduled for June 3-4 at Capital University in Columbus.

Three of the four GCL South teams – Moeller, Elder and St. Xavier – are ranked Nos. 2 through 4, respectively, in the latest Division I state rankings behind top-ranked Hilliard Darby.  Moeller (14-7, 5-1 GCL South) was the regular-season GCL South champion, finishing one game ahead of second-place Elder (20-4, 4-2), while St. Xavier came in third (19-4, 3-3).
