GCL South Leading Scorer Continues Torrid Offensive Pace

Senior  forward Riley Haubner, the Greater Catholic League leading scorer, was at it again Saturday night – finishing with a game-high 29 points, including three made three-point goals and 10 converted free throws, to help La Salle grab an early lead and maintain its advantage throughout a 53-45 victory against Eastern Cincinnati Conference leader Walnut Hills in a non-conference game at La Salle’s Bill Cady Court.  The La Salle victory snapped an eight-game winning streak for the Eagles – ranked No. 5 in The Enquirer’s Division I weekly area coaches’ poll.

Haubner, who has scored 20 or more points in 11 of the 16 games he has played this season (including a season-high 30 in a75-61  loss to Moeller eight days earlier), came into the game averaging nearly 21 points a game.  He has failed to score in double figures only once this season, falling just short with nine points in the Lancers’ 46-36 loss at Hilliard Bradly back on December 16.  La Salle built an 11-5 lead over Walnut Hills (14-3) after one quarter, extended it to 29-20 at halftime and maintained the nine-point advantage, 38-29, entering the fourth quarter.  Sophomore guard Derek Eddings also was in double figures for No. 10 La Salle (9-8), with 11.

La Salle was the lone GCL South team in action Saturday.
