Larkins’ Game-High 26 Points Leads Elder Over Fairfield

Junior Justin Lovette scored 17 points and senior Michael Wergers added 14   to help La Salle post a 67-57 victory against Lakota West in a non-conference basketball game on the road Tuesday night to remain unbeaten  after five games.  The Lancers are off to their best start since opening the 2016-17 season with six straight victories; La Salle went on to finish 24-4 that season and win three postseason games.  Elder also posted a win last night, with junior David Larkins scoring a game-high 26 points to lead the Panthers to a 79-67 win against Fairfield at The Pit in Price Hill.

Moeller and St. Xavier did not play.

La Salle (5-0), coming off a 44-46 win last Friday at highly regarded Covington Catholic, also got 12 points from senior Jaylen Lemons and eight from sophomore Devin Taylor off the bench, including a key steal and three-point play to move the Lancers one victory away from equaling its start from four years ago.  The Lancers will attempt to post their sixth straight win and third straight on the road when they travel to Winton Woods at 7:30 p.m. Friday.

Elder (2-2) has won two of three games since opening the season with a hard-fought loss to nationally regarded Huntington Prep Academy from West Virginia – just one day after the Panthers played in the Division I state football final.  Junior guard Willard Cluxton added 12 against Fairfield, helping Elder take a 42-27 lead into intermission.  The Panthers next game is at home at 7:30 p.m. Saturday against neighborhood rival Western Hills.

Moeller (2-2), the two-time defending DI state champion, has three games in four days from Friday to Monday.  The Crusaders, who had their 50-game winning streak snapped in a 64-59 loss at Akron St. Vincent-St. Mary on December 7, are at Chillicothe at 7:30 p.m. Friday, before hosting Dayton Chaminade Julienne at 7:30 p.m. Saturday and Medina at 5 p.m. Monday.  The Crusaders have won 37 in a row at the Brisben Family Education Center on its campus dating back to the 2014-15 season.  Moeller’s last home loss was to Centerville, 42-41, on February 14, 2015.

St. Xavier (4-2), which has won four consecutive games, is at West Clermont at 7:30 p.m. Saturday.
